Have A Wedding On A Small Budget

Are you hoping to get married on a small budget? You will find it is probably not as difficult as you expect. Weddings are notoriously expensive but if you keep a check on your expenditure, it is possible to save a lot of money.

This means that the first rule of planning a wedding on a small budget is to keep a note of everything you spend or plan to spend. It would be smart to create a spreadsheet with headers for all expenses, and add a ballpark figure next to them, which you will update once you receive the real estimates.

When you are planning a wedding on a small budget, remember that the only essential expense for a wedding is the marriage license. Anything more than that is what you choose to spend. There is no right or wrong, and you should do what feels right for you.

Most people choose to have at least a few guests that will need to be fed a meal. If your budget is very tight, you can do this at someones house. But, most people choose to have caterers serve the meal.

You should shop around, but not expect lots for nothing; when it comes to catering, you usually get what you spend. Let the caterers know that you are working on a small budget, and they may suggest less expensive menu options. Consider limiting the choice of alcoholic drinks, for example by offering only wine and beer instead of a full bar.

Keep your guest list down to a minimum, since that's where the expense usually comes from. Do not feel obligated to invite everybody. Believe it or not, if you invite only a small amount of people, you won't have to worry about hurting anyone's feelings. Unless you can invite everybody from work, it would be best to not invite anyone there.

The wedding dress can be an expensive item so this is another thing that you need to consider when you are planning a wedding on a small budget. Do you really need a new dress? Could renting one be an option?

How about asking mothers, aunts and grandmothers whether anybody has an heirloom dress from their own wedding that could be tailored to fit the younger generation bride? An original wedding dress from an era gone by could really add a touch, and you could plan the whole wedding theme around it.

There are several other things you can cut down or right down cut out. For one thing, you probably don't need as many flowers as are usually seen at weddings. You can totally avoid costly wedding favors, centerpieces and even printed invitations. You can take care of some of these on your own, or see if friends will help you with the planning.
